No DCP intern should leave WDW without stopping at the wishing well at Cinderella Castle and making a wish.
We did! 🙂
Disney has two wishing wells: There’s Cinderella’s Wishing Well near the castle at Magic Kingdom as well as Snow White’s Wishing Well in Disneyland. Look carefully and you’ll notice signs that say “Your wishes will help the Dreams of Children come true”. They actually do.
In June 2013, WDW donated $15,000 to the Foundation for Foster Children. The non-profit organization helps children living with foster families realize some of their own wishes such as access to summer camps, art classes, social activities, tutoring and even cakes on special occasions.
“Each coin is a symbol of hope and dreams,” said Nancy Gidusko, director of community relations at Walt Disney World Resort. “This donation will help foster families make wishes come true for children living under their care.”
For more than 30 years, WDW has donated the money from the wishing wells, fountains and water-based attractions to local children’s charities. In 2013, Cast Members at WDW voted for the Foundation for Foster Children to receive the annual donation. 🙂
