Rivers of Light Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

New animal carvings

New animal carvings at the TOL.

The newly remodeled and expanded area in front of the Tree of Life was unveiled a few weeks ago.

The area has all-new “roots”, featuring additional animal carvings like those found around the Tree of Life trunk.  This new area by Discovery Island provides a better, much less crowded photo opportunity for guests to snap a photo in front of the tree.

Disney is now also using this area for small animal shows during the day, which is another great addition to Discovery Island.

Right before the construction walls were removed. Right now, the TOL only has simple illumination.

In the evening, right before the construction walls were removed. Right now, the TOL only has simple illumination at night, but that’s going to change!

Part of the reason that some guests leave Disney’s Animal Kingdom early is because of the lack of a nighttime show to end the day. All of that is going to change soon. Rivers of Light will be held on and around Discovery River.

“Rivers of Light” promises to be an innovative show unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks, combining live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. The show will magically come to life on the broad, natural stage of the Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest, delighting our guests and truly capping off a full day of adventures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

It will feature live music, water screens, floating lanterns, and more. But, no fireworks to frighten the animals and park’s wildlife!

This will be so pretty so see a night!

A highlight is expected to be the addition of 200,000 twinkling, LED illumination lights to the Tree of Life, which is having all of its leaves replaced for the new production.

Rivers of Life is expected to open sometime in the spring of 2016.

Two Girls

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program (Fall 2013/Spring 2014) and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney.
