WDW News Today is reporting that the Souvenir Penny Machines at Walt Disney World are going digital.

We’ve blogged several times about how fabulous the Pressed Pennies machines are – especially the hand-cranked ones!

The new machine can dispense 12 different coins, as opposed to the 3 that the old machines can do.

A new, digital pressed penny machine was spotted this week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Once Upon a Toy at Downtown Disney also has one of the new digital machines, that one featuring Frozen designs.

The machine has a digital display which eliminates the use of hand cranks or illuminated buttons, and you can’t even put your own penny in it.  😦

Credit cards can't be used when buying just 1 pressed penny.

The cost is $1 per penny, or you can get all 12 pressed pennies for $10.

The pressed penny cost for the old style machines is 51 cents:  1 penny for the machine and two quarters to run it.

New: 12 pressed pennies for $10. Old: 12 pressed pennies for $6.12

There are well over 200 pressed coin machines at WDW and they are everywhere: in all the Parks, at Downtown Disney, at all the resorts, at the two water parks, and at the Disney Cruise Line ports.

On our very first trip to WDW in 1993, we started collecting pressed pennies of our favorite rides and attractions. Disney sells a pressed coin collection vinyl booklet to display your pennies in. It’s a steal at $6.95.

We think that pressed pennies are one of the best souvenirs that kids can get at WDW.

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program (Fall 2013/Spring 2014) and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney.
