Today (8/15/2015), it was announced at the D23 Expo that the new “Soarin’ Around the World” film will be headed to not only Epcot, but also Disney California Adventure park next year.

Filming the New Soarin’ Around the World video:

The attraction will take guests on a journey to far-flung lands and fly above some of the world’s most unique natural landscapes and man-made wonders of the world. Some of the destinations will include the Great Wall of China and Monument Valley in Arizona.

Disney California Adventure’s Soarin’ debuted in 2001 when the park opened, just saw an upgrade to digital projectors during the transformation of the land from Condor Flats to Grizzly Peak.

Over at Epcot, a third theater is currently being constructed. Epcot’s version of the attraction opened on May 5, 2005 in The Land Pavilion.

Both of these digital upgrades are being done to prepare for this new film.

Soarin’ Around the World is expected to debut in Summer 2016 in both parks.

July 2015:

Finally, construction has begun on the long overdue 3rd theater for Soarin’!  You can see the work going on behind the Canada pavilion at Epcot.  Should take about a year to complete.  The crane will be there for at least 3 months.

Can’t wait to see the new HD movie in the new theater!

March 2015:

Near the end of our Spring 2014 DCP program, there was a lot of helicopter filming going on over WDW, especially over Fantasyland and the Cinderella Castle.

The new Mine Train ride was opening at Fantasyland (we almost got to be in that commercial!!) and rumor had it that Disney was finally going to create a Soarin’ Florida experience!  (Orange groves – check!, beach coastline – check!, hot air balloons – check!,  fireworks over a Disney castle – check!!! We hope this is true…)

Yesterday, Disney announced that they were adding another theater – the 3rd one – at Soarin’ to help with the FastPass+ situation.

They’ll also be updating the Soarin’ screens and projection system, bringing a visually-enhanced guest experience to the attraction.  (Finally!  The California Soarin’ footage was showing it’s 2001 age…not HD quality!)

These improvements aren’t expected to be complete until late 2016.  😦

Soarin’ Filming Set For Today and Tomorrow at Walt Disney World

We’ve all been waiting for a new film for Disney’s Soarin’ at Epcot, and it appears to be getting closer and closer.

For those that may have been out early today at WDW on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, a helicopter flyover filming was scheduled for the morning.

There is another set for Wednesday morning, May 7, 2014, as well.

The flyover filming of the new Soarin’ movie is going to be over Epcot and there will even be Friendship boats and Disney Monorails positioned in place for the taping.

While there has been no official word from Disney as to this being for Soarin’, internal word from numerous sources is that’s what is going on. So far, this would mark the third time that there has been helicopter filming in the past month.

A new Soarin’ film appears to be coming closer and closer to a reality.  Mark your calendars for Summer 2016!

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program (Fall 2013/Spring 2014) and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney.

Available now at in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.
