Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program (Fall 2013/Spring 2014) and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.

  1. Question about blackout dates. If we can’t use our self admission pass during black out dates how do we go to work.? Like is there a seperate gate that cast members go through when going to work.? Or is there a seperate card/badge you use if you are going to work.? If I work at MK on a blackout date but can’t use my self admission card for black out dates how do I go to work.?

    1. Good question! You normally enter your work location through a backstage entrance. In order to get backstage, you need to either show or swipe your Blue CM ID to get through a gate.

Now, the blackout dates only apply to your use of guest passes. They do not apply for self admission. The only times CMs are not allowed to get into the parks to play are when the parks are doing phase closures (during Christmas, New Years, etc).

      1. Great thank you. Now you said we can’t get in for Christmas? That’s my birthday so I can’t get into any WDW parks at all? Was hoping to go to them on my 22nd birthday.

      2. It really depends on the crowd level and how quickly it goes into phase closures. Like you’d definitely be able to get into DAK those days, but you might have to get Magic Kingdom near park open to get in.
But if you are a CP, chances are you are going to be working all major holidays!

  2. If I’m a non-park Disney employee and use my self admission pass for entry into Disney World, will I be able to get fastpasses and utilize a magicband? Thanks.
