Piper, a Pixar Short Movie

piper

Way, way too cute!  Makes us miss the beach this summer!!

We loved the new Pixar short movie – Piper – about a baby sandpiper, that is being shown before Finding Dory.

Watch:  Piper – Short Trailer

Just adorable!

The Plot:

The Pixar short centers on a newborn sandpiper, Piper, who is brought by her mother to the shoreline so she can learn to feed on bivalves. However, she is caught off guard by an incoming wave and engulfed in it.

Traumatized, Piper refuses to go to the shore again, however, her hunger leaves her no choice. On her second attempt, she notices a tiny hermit crab who also comes to the shore to feed. As a new wave approaches, she observes that the crab buries himself down in the sand. Out of options, Piper resorts to imitating the crab. The wave submerges Piper, but she stays safely at the bottom. Opening her eyes, she witnesses with wonder all the bivalves creeping out of the sand to take a quick breath before the wave ebbs.

The short ends with Piper no longer afraid of the waves, jumping playfully in the water and tucking herself in the sand every time a wave comes in.

So cute!!

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program (Fall 2013/Spring 2014) and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.

Magic Kingdom – Special ‘Celebrate America’ Fireworks Over the Castle!

Expect 15 minutes of impressive – and LOUD – pyrotechnics rising not just above the Cinderella Castle, but all around the park. Independence Day is one of the few fireworks displays, along with the Halloween and Christmas versions, that utilize the perimeter bursts, making it seem like the fireworks are all around you.

As you may expect, the fireworks display is accompanied by a rousing patriotic soundtrack that is designed to speak to the soul of America.

Unofficial Tip:  Think you’ll watch the fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian Resort? You and a lot of other folks are thinking the same thing! Disney will be checking room keys for beach guests on the 3rd and 4th , and parking will be restricted to resort guests only.

Changes at Disney World Due to Alligator Attack

sign

New signs up everywhere along with temporary rope barriers.

July 18, 2016 Update!

Look at who has returned to the Magic Kingdom yesterday, one month after the gator attack!

louie

Louis is now appearing on the Cinderella Castle main stage!

ticktock

Tick Tock was back in yesterday’s Festival of Fantasy parade!

July 20, 2016:  Parents of Lane announced today that they will not sue Disney for negligence over his drowning death.   Read more:

Parents will not sue Disney and are starting a foundation in his memory

July 1, 2016:

In the wake of a tragic alligator attack at Disney World’s Grand Floridan hotel that left a 2-year-old boy dead two weeks ago, Walt Disney World has made some changes throughout the parks.

gf1.jpg

You can’t rent sailboats this summer.

* All water recreation departing from the resorts, including boat rentals, has been suspended for now.

* All resort beach areas remain closed to guests.  Previously, the caution signs said “No Swimming”, but many guests waded in the shallow, warm lagoon water.

* Temporary barriers and new signs warning about the alligators are now in place at all resort beaches.

gf2

There are no more beach chairs on the white sand beaches surrounding the lagoon.

* The beach lounge chairs have been pulled from the beaches and extra chairs have been placed out by the pools.

* References to and appearances by the gators in the parks has disappeared.

louie

Louis, pictured with Tim Tebow, cancelled his show appearance.

* Louis, the trumpet-playing alligator from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog was supposed to be a part of the new Friendship Faire castle show at Magic Kingdom, but got pulled just days before the show premiered on June 23, 2016. The alligator was supposed to play trumpet during the show.

tick tock

Tick Tock is no longer in the Festival of Fantasy parade.

*The Tick Tock Croc from Peter Pan, known for hunting villain Captain Hook and eating his hand (hence the hook he wears) was removed from the Festival of Fantasy parade at Magic Kingdom.

gf3

The gator has been removed from this float for now.

* The alligator is gone from the nighttime water light parade in front of the Polynesian.

* The Jungle Cruise has also changed its script stopping employees from making jokes like “but remember, folks, if you don’t watch your children, the crocodiles will,” as they narrate an adventure ride through rivers across the world.

* Guides on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom have also removed references to gators. Staff no longer claim the tour bridge could dump them into the crocodile pit below.

gator2

The stretching room painting at the Haunted Mansion hasn’t changed!

*Some guests have even commented that they don’t like the gator in the Haunted Mansion’s stretching room!

“We continue to evaluate processes and procedures for our entire property, and, as part of this, we are reinforcing training with our cast for reporting sightings and interactions with wildlife and are expanding our communication to guests on this topic,” Walt Disney World Resort vice president Jacquee Wahler said in a statement last week.

The Grand Floridan has seen a huge surge of cancellations and requests to be moved to other resorts. There have also been a larger than normal request of refunds for guests choosing not to visit at all due to the events on property and off in Orlando this month.

Since 2006, 240 alligators have been trapped and killed at WDW across the 28,000 acre property.
