Some of the details:

The Gingerbread House stands 16 feet tall.

The 2015 ingredients include 1,050 pounds of honey, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 800 pounds of flour, 140 pints of egg whites, and 700 lbs. of delicious Belgium chocolate!

Here’s a video of the final dusting by Executive Pastry Chef Erich Herbitschek:  Putting the Final Touches on the Gingerbread House

The dusting of the gingerbread house takes 10-15 minutes. The chef squirts down the gingerbread roof with a ‘simple sugar’ water mix, and then sifts powdered sugar onto the house.

Then in early January when they take it all down, they take off all the gingerbread and compost it, wash down the house and store it again until next Christmas!

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.

Starbright Holidays at Disney Springs

300 drones flying in synchronized formation to holiday music!

11/16/16:  Three hundred (300!) drones took to the skies over Disney Springs on Wednesday night in the first drone performance of this scale in the United States.

“Starbright Holidays” is a choreographed nighttime drone performance set to holiday music.

Watch 300 drones form a whirling Christmas Tree:  Christmas Tree in the Sky

Accompanied by an original Disney arrangement of classic holiday songs recorded by a full orchestra, the sparkling experience invites guests to look up to sky and wish upon a holiday star. This is the first time a drone show of this scale has ever been performed in the U.S.

Disney World secured permission from the Federal Aviation Administration earlier this month to use drones on its properties.

The brightly lit drones flew in formation over a restricted area of the park, in view of Disney Springs, the shopping district, and entertainment zone formerly known as Downtown Disney.

Technology giant Intel said it was the first public performance in the United States of the company’s 300 Shooting Star drones. The drones feature built-in LED lights that can create more than four billion color combinations.

The drones dance in formation, creating a huge floating, rotating Christmas tree and other holiday symbols like doves and angels.  Using the sky as the stage for an aerial ballet, the “Starbright Holidays” show will run nightly through Jan. 8, 2017.

The drones have plastic foam bodies and weigh about 10 ounces, about the same as an ultralight running shoe.  “They are going to be flying them over the water and they will almost certainly have some kind of geo-fence built into the software,” Waite said, describing it as similar to an invisible dog fence that won’t let the drones operate beyond a certain point.  And even in the unlikely event a 10-ounce drone falls 150 feet from the sky, “It may not feel great,” Waite said, “but it’s not going to injure you very much.”

“Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” will join other holiday enhancements at Disney Springs, including a brand-new Christmas Tree Trail, special seasonal entertainment, meet and greets with Santa, and festive decor throughout all four neighborhoods – Town Center, The Landing, West Side and Marketplace.

Drones fly every evening through January 8, 2017, weather permitting.

Chicago Cubs parade through Disney’s Magic Kingdom

parade1The Chicago Cubs World Series victory on Wednesday night ended a 108-year championship drought for the team.

“We’re going to Disney World!”

On Saturday, several members of the Chicago Cubs were at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando celebrating their World Series win.

World Series MVP Ben Zobrist along with teammates Addison Russell and Javier Baez paraded down Main Street USA as hundreds of park goers looked on. This follows historic Cubs parade and rally that drew an estimated 5 million fans to downtown Chicago on Friday afternoon.

Can’t have a parade without paper streamers!

Mickey Mouse joined the players as they cruised down Main Street USA in a vintage car.

The parade has been decades in the making for the Cubs, often referred to by fans as ‘the Loveable Losers’.
