International Mermaid Day 2018

Our favorite mermaid! (I traded a cast member for this pin right in front of Ariel’s Grotto!)

Today – March 29, 2018 – is International Mermaid Day!

mermaid (2)

We love The Little Mermaid ride in Fantasyland.

In honor of the day, Freeform is debuting their new series “Siren” tonight.

Mermaid legends come to life in the gripping new drama series “Siren,” premiering March 29 at 8/7c on Freeform. In this epic tale, the coastal town of Bristol Cove is turned upside down when a mysterious girl (Eline Powell) appears and begins wreaking havoc on the small fishing town. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land, and are there more like her out there?

Ariel’s Grotto at the Magic Kingdom. No one was in line! Empty.

We got Fast Passes to see Princess Ariel in her grotto on our trip in January.  We walked right in…no wait!

Our mom hadn’t seen Princess Ariel in years.

We love seeing our favorite mermaid, Princess Ariel, at Ariel’s Grotto in the Magic Kingdom.  But, the wait line can be long and FastPasses to see her are hard to get.

We were lucky and scored some really good Princess Ariel pin trades right in front of Ariel’s Grotto. The cast member we traded with said that a guest was pin trading with some really old Ariel pins from 2007. So fun!

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney.

Lions and Tigers and Strollers, Oh My!

This is not Caroline’s first time in the Disney College Program. Along with her sister, she was previously accepted into the program a few years earlier.  Back in Colorado, Caroline was wishing for a little more pixie dust to brighten up her life.  On a whim, she decides to apply to the exclusive Disney Alumni Summer Program.

Now that she’s back, things get wild.

Wild, as in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Caroline is assigned to work in Stroller Rental.  While not the most glamorous position in the park, it’s often ground zero for humanity at its best and at its worst.

While Caroline makes many “Magical Moments” for deserving guests whose pixie dust has gone temporarily sideways, she also receives magical moments of her own through the friendships she makes, going to Disney cast member exclusive events, and all the spectacular dining opportunities at Disney World.

Caroline tells all – from the ins and outs of Disney’s “secret” training class called Traditions; to learning how to be a shiny, happy cast member during on-the-job training; to what it’s like to interact with fellow cast members and the guests who are ready to explore the most magical place on earth.

Join Caroline as she takes you on a wild ride through her adventures in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But be careful, it’s a jungle out there!

New “Politically Correct” Redhead Scene Debuts in Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney World

pirate

The new pirate, Redd.

March 19, 2018:  After being down for refurbishment for the past three weeks, Pirates of the Caribbean has reopened at Magic Kingdom Park today with a new version of the attraction’s auction scene.

pirate2

Looks like they’ve looted the Haunted Mansion!

In the new auction scene, the Auctioneer now oversees the sale of the townspeople’s possessions and goods, rather than selling brides to the pirates sacking the town. Everyone looks like they are carrying something stolen from the Haunted Mansion!

pirate1

Redd drinking some rum….

As for the Redhead, she has taken charge of her own story and become a pirate named Redd – pillaging the town’s rum supply, and she definitely has something to say about it.

pirate3

“Strike your feathers, dearie.”

The larger woman (formerly a pirate’s auction bride) in the scene is now holding a chicken that is being auctioned off.  New scene dialogue: “Strike your feathers, dearie. Show them your flock.”

redhead

The original Redhead scene. “We wants the Redhead!”

Classic scene lines that were completely removed in the change:

“We wants the redhead!”

“What be I offered for this winsome wench?”

“What are ya’ sellin’ her by the pound?”

“Shift yer cargo dearie, show ’em your larboard side.”

Mickey and Minnie looking fine at their meet and greet.

Warning! The crowds at MK on Easter Sunday morning are awful, second only for Christmas Day crowds! We recommend going to Epcot instead!

Two Disney Sisters

Two Disney Sisters

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.
