Nothing can ruin a long day in the parks faster than sore feet!
Cinderella was right…the right pair of shoes makes all the difference.
The average Disney Park guest walks 5 – 10 MILES per day in the parks, mostly in the hot sun and on hard concrete. Most guests don’t walk nearly that much daily in their everyday life. And, add in all those hours spent standing in wait lines for rides and food and you need to seriously think about your footwear before leaving home!
Let’s break it down:
#1: Tennis Shoes
The most popular footwear option around the parks and for good reason. A good tennis shoe has a great fit, is supportive and offers cushioning.
We like waterproof leather ones if rain is in the forecast and cool weave ones for warm sunny days.
We think guests are crazy to wear flip-flops to the parks. Your feet bake in the heat from the pavement, guests step on them or push strollers over them, you need to put sunscreen on your feet, and they’re not great for running in during the daily afternoon downpours. Just say no.
#3: All-Terrain Sandals
Our dad wears these to the Parks and loves them. A light, breathable sandal with the support and stability of a tennis shoe. Comes in neutral and camo dad colors.
We see these on kids a lot. We don’t own a pair, but they look comfortable. They come in a lot of fun colors.
#5: Princess Shoes
No, no, no!!! We see little girls teetering around wearing these play shoes and feel sorry for them! Moms – put them in your bag and slip them on your daughter’s feet for the photo shoots with characters. Otherwise, keep your kids in comfortable, broken in sneakers during your visit. We think a lot of the crying and whining kids we see later on in the day are suffering from sore feet!
#6: High Heels
We kid you not…we see too many women wearing high heels at the Parks!!
We think they’re crazy!
Wondering what kind of shoes cast members – who work a lot of 12+ hour shifts – wear?

Lions and Tigers and Strollers, Oh My!
This is not Caroline’s first time in the Disney College Program. Along with her sister, she was previously accepted into the program a few years earlier. Back in Colorado, Caroline was wishing for a little more pixie dust to brighten up her life. On a whim, she decides to apply to the exclusive Disney Alumni Summer Program.
Now that she’s back, things get wild.
Wild, as in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Caroline is assigned to work in Stroller Rental. While not the most glamorous position in the park, it’s often ground zero for humanity at its best and at its worst.
While Caroline makes many “Magical Moments” for deserving guests whose pixie dust has gone temporarily sideways, she also receives magical moments of her own through the friendships she makes, going to Disney cast member exclusive events, and all the spectacular dining opportunities at Disney World.
Caroline tells all – from the ins and outs of Disney’s secret training class called Traditions; to learning how to be a happy cast member during on-the-job training; to what it’s like to interact with fellow cast members and the guests who are ready to explore the most magical place on earth.
Join Caroline as she takes you on a wild ride through her adventures in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But be careful, it’s a jungle out there!
