Adventures in the Animal Kingdom

Lions and Tigers and Strollers, Oh My!

This is not Caroline’s first time in the Disney College Program. Along with her sister, she was previously accepted into the program a few years earlier.  Back in Colorado, Caroline was wishing for a little more pixie dust to brighten up her life.  On a whim, she decides to apply to the exclusive Disney Alumni Summer Program.

Now that she’s back, things get wild.

Wild, as in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Caroline is assigned to work in Stroller Rental.  While not the most glamorous position in the park, it’s often ground zero for humanity at its best and at its worst.

While Caroline makes many “Magical Moments” for deserving guests whose pixie dust has gone temporarily sideways, she also receives magical moments of her own through the friendships she makes, going to Disney cast member exclusive events, and all the spectacular dining opportunities at Disney World.

Caroline tells all – from the ins and outs of Disney’s secret training class called Traditions; to learning how to be a happy cast member during on-the-job training; to what it’s like to interact with fellow cast members and the guests who are ready to explore the most magical place on earth.

Join Caroline as she takes you on a wild ride through her adventures in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But be careful, it’s a jungle out there!

Buying Christmas Tree Pickles at Epcot Germany

DSC00448

The Christmas Pickle is sold at Epcot Germany. $12.95-$14.95

Something fun to buy at Epcot Germany for the holidays is a Christmas Pickle for your Christmas tree at home.

The Germany Pavilion has eight different shops including the holiday-themed Die Weihnachts Ecke shop (this is where you can buy the Christmas Pickle ornament); Stein Haus (drinkware and home décor); Weinkeller (wine shop); and Das Kaufhaus, which carries soccer apparel and accessories.

Each shop is filled with wonderful Germany-inspired gifts and treasures.

Christmas Pickle

The Christmas Pickle Tree stays up and lit all year round.  There’s a sign on the wall explaining the “tradition”.

Christmas Pickle

The fragile glass ornaments are made in Germany.

Unfortunately, you can’t buy these online at Shop Disney, only In-Store.  😦

Christmas Pickle Backstory:

In the early 1890s, Woolworth department stores started selling glass ornaments imported from Germany that were in the shape of various fruits and vegetables, including a pickle.

Around the same time it was claimed that the Christmas Pickle was a “very old German tradition” and that the pickle was the last ornament hung on the tree on Christmas Eve, buried deep in the tree’s branches.

DSC00447

A whole tree of Christmas pickles!

The first child to find it on Christmas morning is rewarded with one of three things: the privilege of opening the first gift, the receiving an extra gift from Santa, or being granted a year of good luck.

We are friends with an ICP from Germany who worked at Epcot’s Germany pavilion and he said that he never heard of the ‘Christmas Pickle’ before coming to America, and neither did any of his coworkers!

In fact, a recent survey revealed more than 90 percent of Germans had never heard of the “Christmas Pickle”.

green pickle

It seems like this sparkly pickle would be easy to find on Christmas morning…$19.95

Bottom line, the Christmas pickle is actually an American Christmas tradition, not German!

But, we still like the idea of getting an extra present on Christmas morning!

Seeing Disney World’s Magical Electrical Water Pageant

King Triton and his team of Sea Horses

We love seeing the magical Electrical Water Pageant at Disney World!

You don’t have to be staying at one the Disney World resorts to see it; we’ve seen it many times from the monorail as we were leaving the Magic Kingdom for the night and heading over to the parking lot.

Fun Fact: We had no idea that it dates back to 1971 and is one of the few original opening year shows to still be running at Walt Disney World.

water3The Electrical Water Pageant takes place every evening (weather permitting) on Walt Disney World’s Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.

electrical-water-pageant3

It features 14 floats with bright LED lights that depict various sea creatures all floating along to music.  The floats are remote-controlled.

electrical-water-pageant4

It’s very pretty with the float lights reflecting off the Seven Seas Lagoon.

An Underwater World of Mystery

Charming sea creatures, both mythical and natural, light up the Seven Seas Lagoon, with a bright green sea monster leading the way!

Throughout this enchanting nighttime parade, you’re invited to delight to a variety of Disney tunes as the sea creatures are joined by flashing American flags—complete with twinkling stars! Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a stirring and inspirational medley of Disney tunes and patriotic songs with stars and stripes floating along the shimmering lagoon surface!

Once Upon a Time Show at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

christmas cinderella lights castle

The holidays are an extra magical time at the Magic Kingdom!

We were both working at Disney World when Disney Parks announce they were replacing our favorite evening show at the Magic Kingdom – Celebrate the Magic – with a new show called Once Upon a Time.

We were there for its premier in November 2016 and have seen it many, many times since then.

We really love it!

****

once4

“Once upon a time”…

“Tell me a story!” Chip asks his mother and Mrs. Potts begins to tell stories that all begin with “Once upon a time…” As she speaks, the pages of the towering storybook change to show scenes from various animated Disney movies.

The Once Upon a Time Show premiered at the Magic Kingdom on November 4, 2016, replacing the previous evening show Celebrate the Magic.

once6

Peter Pan

Hosted by Mrs. Potts, the show has her telling bedtime stories to Chip, including sequences showcasing Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Frozen, and finally Beauty and the Beast which culminates in the battle between Gaston and Beast fighting on the castle itself and Beast’s transformation back into the Prince kicking off the finale.

As Mrs. Potts and Chip say together, “And they lived happily ever after,” the performance reaches its grand finale. The show ends with an brief fireworks display over the Castle.

once10

Our very favorite scene…the floating lanterns of Tangled.    ♪♫♪ And at last I see the lights…♪♫♪

Join Mrs. Potts and her son Chip for a captivating bedtime story that recounts cherished moments from tales that begin with the classic line—“Once Upon A Time.”

Get swept away to far-off lands as scenes from some of your favorite Disney animated films―Cinderella, Peter Pan, Frozen, Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast―are beautifully projected onto the Cinderella Castle.

This evening show runs approximately 14 minutes.
