As we learned during the Walk in Walt’s Footsteps Tour, the oldest attraction at Disneyland is the King Arthur Carousel.
We made it a goal to ride on the Jingles horse during our last trip.
It’s not easy because everyone wants to ride on her.
We literally had to run to Jingles once the cast member opened the ride’s gate.
The carousel was built by in Canada in 1875 and every horse on the carousel has a name. You can pick up a complete list of the carousel horse’s names at City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. (free).
Jingles is the carousel’s lead horse and was Walt’s favorite horse.
She made an appearance in the 2013 Disney movie “Saving Mr. Banks”. (We got to go to the movie’s world premier in December 2013 when we were working at Disney World!)
Jingles is named for her beautiful straps of jingle bells hanging from her saddle and mantle.
For Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2005, Jingles was repainted and trimmed in real 18K gold leaf.
Jingles was ceremoniously dedicated to Dame Julie Andrews on April 8, 2008.
We’ve actually gotten to ride on Jingles several times now:
And look who else showed up to ride today:
We’ve written two books about our time working – and playing – as Disney Cast Members at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
