If you’re looking to visit a galaxy far, far away at the end of this month, you’ll want to note that you only have about four hours to do so.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in Disneyland on May 31 and in an effort to avoid overcrowding, the happiest place on earth will use Stormtroopers to enforce the 4-Hour time limit.
The Stormtrooper-enforced time limit is just one of the precautions the park plans to use to avoid potential crowd chaos upon its opening.
Disney engineers and landscapers have widened walkways in Adventureland and improved queuing systems throughout Disneyland in an attempt to accommodate more visitors.
During the first three weeks of the attraction’s opening, guests will be required to make reservations for each member to enter the Star Wars land.
Guests will receive colored wristbands coordinating with their reserved four-hour time slot. Once that time window expires, Stormtroopers will patrol the park and politely tell visitors to leave so new visitors may enter.
“Four hours is a long time in the land,” Kris Theiler, vice president of the Disneyland Park says. “Most guests are going to find that they’re ready to roll after four hours.”
What happens if guests refuse to leave the park after their time slot expiration? Well, Disneyland is keeping pretty quiet on that part…maybe use “The Force” on them?
Park visitors who booked rooms at any of the three Disneyland Resort hotels automatically received reservations, while those who booked a stay elsewhere are required to reserve their slot online.
Reservations opened on May 2nd for the May 31st – June 23rd opening and the opening period dates were filled within two hours.
Following the 3-week “soft opening” time frame, Disneyland will launch a virtual queuing system similar to FastPass where guests can sign up for a boarding group.
Each boarding group will have a two-hour window in which guests can enter the Star Wars land, but no time limit once guests are inside.
May 2, 2019 UPDATE: All general admission passes to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have been reserved at Disneyland. They were gone within 2 HOURS this morning!
Hope you got yours!
Disney announced this month that Disneyland Park in California will open its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction at Disneyland ahead of schedule on Friday, May 31st, while Disney World would open its Star Wars-themed area at the end of summer on August 29th.
The massive 14-acre Star Wars section of Disneyland’s park will be the largest single-themed land expansion ever, according to a press release from Disney, and will have restaurants – including the park’s first-ever cantina – as well as rides and other experiences to offer customers a fully-immersive experience.
“Guests can become part of the story as they sample galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run,” a previous press release stated. The park has also revealed that this new experience is a “choose your own adventure,” with each choice potentially impacting a guest’s visit.
Phase Two of the massive fully-immersive land, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, will be opening later this year.
On opening day for Phase One, you’ll be able to live your own Star Wars story and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, sample amazing galactic food and beverages, and explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and more.

And for Phase Two opening later this year, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission AND will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. It is expected that the Star Wars Land will reach capacity every day.
Information on how to make a reservation will be available soon on Disneyland.com. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will not be available during Extra Magic Hour or Magic Morning at Disneyland Park. [The area will be closed during EMH.]
Disney FASTPASS service and Disney MaxPass are unavailable for attractions in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World this time.
March 15, 2019: All lodgings at the Disneyland Resort are now completely booked the night before the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on May 31st. This includes Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier and Disney’s Grand Californian.
We’ve written two books about our time working at Disney World.
Both are available on Amazon.com: Two Girls and a Mouse Tale and Adventures in the Animal Kingdom.
