July 15, 2020 Update: This planned renovation of the United Kingdom pavilion has been postponed until at least 2021 now.
As a cost saving measure, any project not at least 50% complete by July 1st at Disney World is being pushed into 2021 or beyond. Look for planned projects not even started to be delayed until 2022 – 2024.
Disney continues to hemorrhage about $1 Billion dollars a month with several of their theme parks still closed, limited daily ticket sales, resorts only partially open or still closed, all cruises suspended through at least October 2020, and no movies being released this summer. Their entire 2020 movie schedule has now been pushed into late Fall or 2021.
A brand new Mary Poppins-inspired attraction is coming to the UK Pavilion at Epcot next year!
This is the current UK Pavilion. It’s all shops. We don’t see this street changing, but rather an additional Cherry Tree Lane neighborhood added on behind it.
This new neighborhood will allow guests to “step in time down Cherry Tree Lane past Admiral Boom’s house, then enter Number 17, home of the Banks family.”
We expect that it will be a lot like the new wait line area for Peter Pan, where there you enter the Darling house and walk through many of the home’s rooms, which have magical and interactive features. Expect the Banks’ house to have cupboard drawers opening and closing.
Mary Poppins and maybe Bert might have a permanent meet and greet area here, replacing Alice in Wonderland who meets out front there now.
Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke was a surprise guest at Disney’s D23 Expo on Saturday, August 24, 2019, to announce an all new Mary Poppins-themed attraction. The 93 year old actor was introduced on-stage after a troupe of chimney sweep dancers performed the film’s classic song “Step In Time.”
Dick shared his adoration for company founder Walt Disney. To a standing ovation, Dick also shared a touching memory in which Walt encouraged him to embody child-like wonder in his ‘Poppins’ performance as Bert all those years ago.
