Celebrating the holidays at the Magic Kingdom!  We highly recommend going the first two weeks in December when the crowds are relatively low.

christmas-halloween

This year, the last night of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was November 1st. Crews arrived at 1am and overnight magically transformed the Magic Kingdom from Halloween to Christmas in time for the park opening at 8am on November 2nd. It is amazing!

halloween1

The park All Clear was given until almost 2:30am on Nov. 2nd causing a delay in getting all the holiday decor deployed overnight. The Halloween bunting was still up at the train station at 8am! It was replaced after park closing that night.

Discounted MVMCP tickets are available for cast members.  Expect more dates to be added for CMs closer to the event.

Hidden Treasures Beneath Your Feet at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

adventureland

Welcome to Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom!

In Adventureland, you can find broken tiles, gems, jewelry, and ‘coins’ scattered in the concrete pavement all around The Flying Carpets of Aladdin.

Finding the Hidden Treasures of Adventureland – Where to Look

Start looking down at the pavement here - lots of gems everywhere!!!

Start looking down at the pavement here – lots of gems everywhere!!!

While we were waiting in the Aladdin and Jasmine meet & greet line at Agrabah Bazaar, we pointed out some interesting pieces in the pavement to the young guests waiting in line with us.

All of them – boys and girls – bent down to exam to jewelry more closely and all of them reached out and tried to pick up the pieces!  🙂

The most jewelry can be found outside the Bazaar.

The most jewelry in Adventureland can be found in the pavement outside the Bazaar.

There’s actually a lot of jewelry pressed into the pavement, like long necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The closer you get to the Aladdin and Jasmine ‘Meet & Greet’ area, the more jewelry is scattered on the ground.

Carpet

Adventureland is our favorite land!

Located over in Adventureland, the Flying Carpets of Aladdin is such a fun ride!  We think that it’s a cooler version of the Dumbo ride because you pilot flying “magic carpets” instead of flying elephants.

Insider Tip #1:  The wait times are always much, much shorter at the Flying Carpets than they are over at the Dumbo ride.  In fact, there was no wait at all when we got there!

Insider Tip #2: Sit in the front seat to control how high your carpet flies and sit in the back seat to make it tilt forwards and back.

Insider Tip #3:  Yes, the camel “spits”!  It’s controlled by a behind-the-scenes cast member, and yes, they can see you!

Plan on arriving before sunset to see Pandora in the daylight…then stay for the magical transformation at night!

The amazing world of Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom transforms into glowing beauty at night when Pandora’s bioluminescent flora comes to life – Pandora After Dark!

As night falls over Pandora, you’re instantly transported to a new planet of awe and wonder. The moody darkness is filled with bioluminescent pathways and plants and makes you feel like you’re walking through your own little galaxy…on a planet far, far away.

dak4

In the Valley of Mo’ara at night

Take in the glowing blue cascading waterfalls by the queue line to Flight of Passage, with breathtaking, enormous floating mountains overhead.

pandora5

So much to see…all the plants sort of plain during the day but are super cool at night!

Listen closely as you wander around Pandora after Dark.

As night falls, the “natural” sounds in Pandora: The World of Avatar change with the scenery as well. You’ll hear low animal growls as well as other scary sounds coming from the animals of Pandora hiding in the bushes.

The walkways all glow.

Día de los Muertos celebration at Epcot.

If you would like to celebrate and honor the Day of the Dead, el Día de los Muertos, at Disney World this year look no further than Epcot where Mariachi Cobre Presents the Story of “Coco”, returning Oct. 31st – Nov. 2nd, 2019.

The beloved story of Disney Pixar’s “Coco” comes to life in this amazing show where Mariachi Cobre, joined by Folklórico dancers, tell the story of Miguel through vibrant dance and song at the Mexico pavilion at Epcot.

The show honors the movie’s theme, which celebrates the tradition of remembering friends and family members who are no longer with us.

pan-de-los-muertos dod coco

Pan de los Muertos is available this week at Paradise Garden Grill in California Adventure.

Pan de los Muertos (Spanish for: Bread of the Dead) is a sweet roll traditionally baked in Mexico during the week leading up to the Día de Muertos, which is celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd, with November 1st being Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

The sweetened soft bread is shaped like a bun, often decorated with bone-shaped phalanges pieces. Pan de muerto is eaten on Día de Muertos, at the gravesite or, alternatively, at a tribute called an ofrenda.  As part of the celebration, loved ones eat pan de muerto as well as the relative’s favorite foods.

Bread of the Dead usually has skulls or crossbones engraved on it. It is believed the spirits do not eat it, but rather absorb its essence, along with water at their ofrenda, after their long journey back to Earth.

The bones represent the deceased one (difuntos or difuntas) and there is normally a baked tear drop on the bread to represent goddess Chimalma’s tears for the living. The bread is represented in a circle to portray the circle of life and is topped with sugar as life is sweet.

The Candlelight Processional is a breathtaking retelling of the Christmas story in words and music complete with a 50-piece orchestra, choir and celebrity guest narrators. The narrator reads the Christmas story and favorite carols of the season are interspersed throughout the program.

The Candlelight Processional is held every night during the Christmas season. The first performance is on November 29, 2019 and then runs nightly through December 30, 2019.

There are three performances each evening at 5:00, 6:45 and 8:15 p.m. The length of the show is about 45 minutes.

Our FREE ticket to see Edward James Olmos narrate from 2016 Candlelight Processional!  He’ll be back this year on Christmas night, December 25, 2019.

The performance is included in regular Epcot park admission at no additional cost. All Epcot guests are welcome to view this wonderful presentation.

The Candlelight Processional is held in Epcot at the American Gardens Theater in the American pavilion. This is an open air theater and, although there is a roof, you may get wet if it rains. Remember to dress for being outside. Although you are in Florida, it still may be quite cool on a December evening.

The choir consists of members of Disney’s Voices of Liberty (red & black attire), the Cast Member choir (green robes), and visiting high school and guest choirs (gold robes).

CM Update:  Cast member auditions for the 2019 Candlelight Processional choir were held this summer in July, and CMs were notified if they were selected as a participant by mid-August 2019.  Rehearsals started earlier this month.

Doing the Lion King Scavenger Hunt at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Lion King

Ten wooden Lion King Carvings are hiding in plain sight.

We always try to do something new on every trip.

Last week, we were surprised to see that Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a brand new scavenger hunt similar to Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak Hunt at Epcot’s World Showcase.

$6.99

This scavenger hunt started in July 2019 and was supposed to end September 28th, but has been extended through October.

Each time you discover a hidden character around Harambe, you mark the map with a sticker and then return the map for a prize at Mombasa Marketplace in Harambe or The Outpost Shop in the Oasis for a surprise prize.

Ready to start the scavenger hunt….

But, here’s the best part – you don’t have to complete the hunt to get a prize! Just go in with your map and the cast member will let you select which prize you want!

Lion King

Super cute.

Each prize is a magnet made of a unique piece of wood with one of three Lion King stamps on it.  Our cast member handed us 20 prizes and let us each choose the one we wanted!

Our 3 Lion King Magnets. A prize can be redeemed whether the map is completed or not.
