Mattel is Releasing a Día de Los Muertos

2020 Barbie Dia de Muertos

Mattel is paying tribute to Mexican culture with a 2020 limited-edition Barbie. The new doll is inspired by Catrina to celebrate Día de Los Muertos.

Celebrated for three days from October 31st through November 2nd, it’s a time to remember the lives of those who have passed away.

The Barbie doll is dressed in traditional day of the dead attire including a full face of Catrina makeup and a crown made of Roses and Marigold Flowers.

Starting on September 2nd, you can order the special edition Barbie Dia De Muertos for $75.00.  She’s also available at Walmart and Target.

(She’s going for $180 on ebay right now!)

The doll is stunning. She looks like a quintessential Mexican goddess and is in head-to-toe Day of the Dead attire. Her makeup is spot on and her dress resembles a lacy bridal dress.

The doll is part of a new line of Barbies with fan-favorite themes including Stars Wars characters, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and R2-D2. There’s also a Rosa Parks Barbie, which was released to celebrate Women’s Equality Day. Mattel has also released Barbies of other inspiring women, including astronaut Sally Ride and pro-golfer Lorena Ochoa.

“Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie, and we are thrilled to shine a light on real-life role models to remind them that they can be anything,” Lisa McKnight, Senior Vice President And General Manager of Barbie, said in a statement to Time magazine.
