‘Festival Of The Lion King’ Returning to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in May 2021

Rehearsals began last week. The show has been on hiatus since March 2020.

The cast of ‘Festival Of The Lion King’ officially started rehearsing last week and they will be back on stage performing next month.

“Our cast is back in rehearsals for “A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King,” preparing for the show’s mid-May debut as entertainment continues to return across Walt Disney World.

“Disney’s Animal Kingdom Vice President Sarah Riles and I stopped in to welcome them recently, and hearing that wonderful, familiar music put a lump in my throat. Thrilled to have these talented Cast Members back on our stage!” said Walt Disney World Resort President Jeff Vahle.

Festival of the Lion King is a must-see show for us every time we visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The show is a ‘Broadway’ type performance with singing, dancing, special lighting, gymnastics, and Cirque du Soleil-type flying performances.  It’s a very high energy show, and very well done!  The dance troop sings all the great songs from the Lion King movie, and the audience sings along…it was wonderful!

The show lasts for about 30 minutes and it’s performed at least 5-8x/day, depending on the season.

We only wish that Disney would put in regular seats – the show is a ½ hour long after all – instead of uncomfortable, metal stadium bench seating.

Go ape for the triumphant return of pageantry and puppetry at this big-as-Broadway show celebrating Simba, the lion cub who would be king—now at home in Africa at the all-new Harambe Theater!

Join the inhabitants of the Pride Lands for a grand celebration of The Lion King with songs from the film. Relax in air-conditioned stadium seating as the jungle roars around you!

Four magnificently costumed singers enter the theater-in-the-round to start the tribal celebration. Each singer leads part of the audience to act like a giraffe, a warthog, a lion or an elephant. You might even be picked to show off your animal nature.
