Our Year Working at Disney World:  Two sisters exploring the ups and downs of Disney World!

Caroline: The main writer of this blog, graduated with a BA degree in history and secondary education from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May 2015. She is currently working as a 7th grade Social Studies teacher.

Her love for all things Disney, and desire to grow up to be a Disney princess, is the reason why she did the DCP program. Her role for all three DCP programs was Merchandise at Discovery Island in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

May 2015 Update:  Caroline has returned to WDW for the 2015 Summer DCP Alumni program! Her new role is back at DAK in a merchandise role again (carts & strollers).

And, she’s written a new book! Look for it March 2018!

A new Disney chapter begins...

May 2015:  A new Disney chapter begins for Caroline…back at Traditions again.

Elly: The main photographer and a contributor to this blog, has completed her masters degree at Colorado State University in Public Communications. She is currently working as a Social Media Manager for national, billion dollar real estate company.

Her motivation for doing the DCP program was the promise of unlimited pin trading! She worked for a year as a Relief Coordinator at Downtown Disney, now Disney Springs.

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale

by Elly Collins & Caroline Collins

Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.

This is kind of a strange questfion but here goes. My daughter is scheduled to end her DCP in January but I need to schedule a resort for that week to pick her up. Can we still do a cast discount. Here’s the time line..
    DCP: August 2, 2017-January 4, 2018
Call to schedule resort: Oct 2017 For January 3-9,2018.
Daughter verifies reservation Dec 28, 2017 with resort.
I just wasn’t sure if they would check her employment status again at the resort. They’ve never have with my son when je uswd to arrange reservation for. Thanks

    • Hello,

We have some good news for you!
Yes, she can use her cast member discount AND the 2017 Holiday Celebration booklet will be out by mid-October with hotel coupons to use for an excellent discount.
She needs to be with you when you check in on January 3rd and present the coupon.
They will adjust your room rate, if the coupon wasn’t already applied. (Have her make the reservation thru 407-WDW-CAST anytime after the coupons come out.)
      2016 info: https://collinsrace1.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/2016-disney-family-holiday-celebration-info/

Even though her program ends January 4th, it takes at least a few weeks for her to be deactivated in the system.
When you check in on Jan 3rd, she’ll still be an active cast member. 🙂

We hope she loves her program.

      Have a magical day!
