The Chocolate Lover’s Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream!!!

Beaches and Cream soda fountain at the Yacht Club.

After renting our Surrey Bike and pedaling around the Boardwalk for an hour, we headed over to our reservation at Beaches and Cream.

I was so excited – none of my CP friends have tried the Kitchen Sink, so we were doing it on our last week of the program.

I tried the Kitchen Sink during my last program with Elly…and it was super gross.  😦

I do not like coffee ice cream + pineapple topping, which was what I got with every bite last time!! Yuck!!

Trying the Kitchen Sink with my ICP friends that work strollers at DAK with me: Eve, Julia, and Jane!

This time around, I begged my friends to try something different than the $50 Original Kitchen Sink.

I heard that there were actually different types of Kitchen Sinks, so I convinced my friends to try the chocolate one with me.

There are actually 3 types of Kitchen Sinks at Beaches and Cream: the B&C Original, the Chocolate Lovers, and the Neapolitan.

OMG!!!

Luckily, all my girlfriends love chocolate as much as I do and we were all set to order the Chocolate Lovers Kitchen Sink.

Here's a funny shot, trying to get all of us in the photo! Our waitress was so nice!

Registering for the DCP January 2016 Homecoming Event

DAA_Homecoming_savedate2

Save the date!

As soon as it was announced that there would be another DCP Homecoming Event, Elly and I knew we had to go to it!

It was announced on the Alumni Facebook group that the event would have 2,000 participants this time, as opposed to the 400 last year, and there is also a new $200 registration fee.  Everybody about lost their minds over the fee because last year’s event was free.  BUT, there is also going to be some new swag – like the exclusive Alumni magic band!!!!!

Elly and I talked it over and we decided that we didn’t mind paying the extra fee since all the events that weekend sounded so fun!

The registration was due to open Thursday, August 20th at noon our time.  Elly and I had our Macs, iPads, and smart phones out and ready! haha!  (I have a feeling we weren’t the only ones!)

We kept refreshing the link until the website opened up at 12:01pm.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.01.00 PM

Server problems.

Almost immediately, we got an error message (above).

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.33.25 PM

Registration page.

I was waiting for this page where it asks for your name and email to get you into the registration webpage.  I ended up getting that error page 12 times in a row!  Finally – over an hour later – I was able to go to the next step of registration process!  Whew!

Here is a list of the special events offered over the MLK holiday weekend:

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.43.09 PM

Friday, January 15, 2016: Dessert and Wishes event at the Contemporary Resort.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.43.12 PM

Saturday, January 16, 2016: Hollywood Studios gathering

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.43.15 PM

Reunion

The next part really threw people off!  Extra add-ons, but for an added fee!  😦

The offerings are: Bowling at Splitsville, a special character meet and greet at Epcot, and a family day at Mickey’s Retreat.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.43.50 PM

Alumni fun…for an additional fee!

The only one Elly and I really wanted to go to was the character special meet and greet!

We can’t wait to find out who will be there!!!  (Last year, it was Mickey and Minnie in fancy costumes!)
Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.44.17 PM

Next, you had to sign up for when you want to pick up your Alumni packet.

Elly and I chose the Friday at 5pm timeslot because we aren’t sure when we are flying in.  I think it might be too close to the first event – the party at the Contemporary starting at 6pm.  But, since this is at the Contemporary too, maybe it won’t be too bad and we can go straight there.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.47.06 PM

The final part of weekend registration was paying the $200 fee, plus any of the add-ons, plus a processing fee!
Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.47.14 PM

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.47.26 PM

$211 in event fees.

Here is my final check of my info for Registration.  You can see all the Submission Error screens I had up (about 20!)!

Confirmed at last!!!

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 12.49.05 PM

Confirmation page.

Elly and I wore our DCP Alumni shirts that day – for extra pixie dust luck!

Screen Shot 2015-08-22 at 10.35.06 AM

We’re going!

So excited!!!!!
Screen Shot 2015-08-22 at 10.35.14 AM

Also – for all our rushing and nerves about not getting a spot for this year’s Homecoming, as of yesterday (August 21st), there were still 1,400 spots left!

We’re wondering if the $200 non-refundable fee stopped a lot of people from registering for this event.

Anyone else going to the 2nd Annual DCP Homecoming in January 2016??

We can’t wait to meet you there!  🙂

There are three sizes and you can get multiple flavors in one cup.

Breakfast at the Crystal Palace with my DCP Roommates!

100_7252

Ready for breakfast, 10:30am.

When my roommates found out I was going to the Crystal Palace, we all started talking about doing a roommate breakfast!

And AMAZINGLY, we all were off on Tuesday AND there was an reservation available for a large group!

100_7247

Breakfast brunch, $29.99

Our reservation was at 10:30am, so we carpooled together, parked over at the Contemporary and took the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom.

We all dressed up and wore our Mickey ears.  It was awesome!  I absolutely LOVE buffets and, luckily, so do my roommates.

While we were waiting for our table, we looked out over at the newly-expanded Castle Hub area and there was Mary Poppins! With no line!  We had to go say hi!

image2

She was so sweet and told us all to get some tea at the Crystal Palace.

Breakfast time!

100_7226

My breakfast.

The best part of this meal was the deep fried French toast, covered in sugar! YUM!!!  I also really liked the fajita scrambled eggs.  And the Mickey Waffles, of course!

As if this meal could not get any better, while we were eating Winnie the Pooh arrived to say hello!

I wore my Parkbound button that says: “There’s a rumbly in my tumbly”. Pooh loved it!

Eeyore was so sad but so cute.

Piglet signing my autograph book next.

He drew some sad rain clouds and a heart in my autograph book!

image8

Grrrrr…..

Tigger was hysterical!  He came up to me and literally growled in my ear! haha! I’ve never experienced that before!

pooh

So cute!!!

After brunch, we stopped and took some great photos together in front of Cinderella Castle.

My roommates are super fun!

I just have to say how much I LUCKED OUT with these great roommates!  I absolutely love living with all seven of them and I’m so glad the DCP put us together. ❤

Filling Out DCP DORMS Form for Housing

Tomorrow!!!

Tomorrow!!!

I finally got my email to fill out Dorms!

As you know, I have been using Facebook to find a good roommate match.  You can read about that here.

soon

This is a new updated process.  You usually receive this email 10 days before your arrival and it is where you link with your roommates and select your housing references.

When I did my first program, they were just rolling this out.  Before Fall 2013, you had to be in line with who you wanted to live with and it was first come, first serve for housing preferences.  So you literally had people lining up in the middle of the night!  I can’t imagine how frustrating it must have been trying to meet up with everyone you wanted to live with!  With my first program, you were able to link with 1-7 other people since the maximum is 8 in one unit.

Once I got my DORMS email, you have to read and confirm two different articles about housing rules.  Then it brings you to a page where you link with your roommates.  Your special ID number is in your email.  And – if you didn’t know, this will actually be your Cast Member ID number!

One person in your group needs all of your groups ID numbers to link everyone.  Once that happens, you’re good to go!  It was VERY surprising when I logged onto Dorms and saw they were only allowing people to link with two other people!  Everyone on the Facebook groups were freaking out – especially if they were hoping to get a larger apartment!

Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 10.39.53 AM

You have two options: choosing to be “adventurous” and be randomly put in with people.  Or if you have a person you want to live with, you link with them here.

I, unfortunately, spent a lot of time connecting with people who I wanted to live with and had similar interests as me.  However, I tried to link with them and it wouldn’t let me because we were doing different programs!  I had no idea that summer program and Fall Advantage program people couldn’t live together!! 😦

I felt SO horrible for the girl I was going to live with – we both had to be “adventurous” with our roommates since we didn’t find anyone in the right programs to link to.  I know we will meet up and be friends, but I really wish it had worked out better!

Here is the updated DCP Rent Prices:

2017-rent

The page below is also new to me!  In Fall 2013, we were able to select just 3 options for complexes and 3 options for occupancy. Just because you put “1 bedroom, Commons” doesn’t mean you’d necessarily get both of those.  Elly and I put: 1, 2, 3 bedroom and Commons, Chatham, and Patterson in our preference order and ended up getting a 3 bedroom in Chatham.

This new DORMS has every available living situation and you had to pick and drag it in the order you most preferred!  I really liked how specific it was!  You also have the option of being “adventurous” in this choice too!Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 10.36.47 AMI really, REALLY want to live in The Commons in a 1 bedroom again!  I loved the laundry availability and I really want to check out the new store there (The Grid).

These are my final preferences:
Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 10.37.39 AMWish me luck!

05/26/2015 UPDATE:

I literally got my #16 – last!!! – choice.  😦

On the Quest for Good DCP Roommates

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 8.19.50 PM

Almost as soon as I was accepted into the program, I started wondering (and worrying) about roommates. I am pretty easy to live with – I’m super clean, I’m generally quiet, and I’m friendly. My issue is that it is hard to find someone as considerate as me to live with!

I joined the Accepted Summer Alumni facebook group and also the May 26th Arrival Date facebook group to try to find someone who is similar to me and also wants the same location and room size!

The majority of the people you’ll find in the College Program are looking for the most roommates and the cheapest living option. Well…I’m the exact opposite. I lived in a 3 bedroom in Chatham with 5 other girls. And the struggle was real when it came to doing my laundry (down two flights and in another building) and just generally sharing the space with strangers! It’s hard! There was never any room in the refrigerator and definitely none in the freezer! And if you know me – I don’t like confrontation. So when I was put in with some extremely loud, opinionated girls from the East Coast, I knew it was going to be rough going for me.

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 8.09.54 PM

Because I will only be doing this program for 3 months, I want to have a pleasant living situation! I saw a lot of people posting roommate surveys on these facebook groups so I jumped in!

_______________________________________________________________________

So clearly I was looking for someone quiet, clean, and considerate! I probably said it enough to sound like really crazy. Haha

As I started searching for roommates, every time I saw a girl post “Looking for a nonjudgmental, fun roommate!!!” all I could think was “….hard pass.” I do not want to live with someone who is up all night, scream talking with someone or having a ton of parties all the time. I want them to be at home, cleaning!

I know, I’m crazy – but a girl can dream!

Screen Shot 2015-05-19 at 8.11.38 PM

I talked with several girls who I thought could be a match. Almost zero people want to live in the Commons and definitely no one wanted to live in a single bedroom!

I finally found one girl from the Summer program who was interested in the Commons. I talked to her a little bit and she seemed nice. She was waiting to see if her two friends were also accepted to figure out rooming.

I also found a girl in the Arrivals group that I was super interested in living with. She seems really nice, quiet, and clean! We talked a lot for the past two months and I was really looking forward to living with her!

But then…(to be continued)
