Ever wonder what it’s like to work for Disney???

We worked at WDW for a year in the Disney College Program and have written a book about what it’s like to be a cast member working for Disney.

We’ve included advice on how to successfully get into the DCP program, including some of the actual phone interview questions, how to have a successful internship, and how not self-term before your program ends. Our book is filled with lots of behind-the-scene stories of the magic of Disney. Available now at Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle formats. Published by Theme Park Press.

Things You Must Do at Disney World!

Four Parks (2)

Four Parks, One World:  Welcome to Disney World!  (Photo credit:  WDW Shutterfly)

The checklists below for the 4 parks are from last year, but they are still very helpful in planning and making sure that you don’t miss out on the things that you really want to do and see during your vacation at Walt Disney World.

There are FastPasses available at each park for the premier attractions, but are generally gone by early morning during the peak crowd weeks, so plan accordingly.

mk

You can get FastPasses for a lot of these MK attractions….but only 3 per day (unless you are a resort guest) so plan accordingly!

epcot1

Maelstrom is now Frozen Ever After, of course.  And the brand new IMAX film is playing at Soarin’.  Get a FastPass to see that!

dak

The brand new Rivers of Life attraction is now playing in the evening at DAK.

dhs

This checklist for DHS is mainly to show how DHS has become a 1/2 day park with all the construction for Toy Story Land and the new Star Wars Land.  More than 1/2 of these attractions are now closed.  There’s not a lot to do on some days if you didn’t get any FastPasses; you might not want to wait around for Fantasmic at 8pm.

DHS’s Earful Tower is Gone!

IMG_1134

My last photo of the Earful Tower that I took earlier this year.

Disney announced back in January 2016 that DHS’s iconic Earful Tower would be torn down as part of the plan to redevelop the park.

At one time, the Earful Tower served as the main icon for what was then known as Disney MGM Studios in the 1990s. It was in place when Disney MGM Studios opened on May 1, 1989 and through the years the tower saw décor come and go.

DHS’s new park icon is the Hollywood Tower of Terror building

The Earful Tower was removed overnight after park closing last Friday night (April 29, 2016). The area of land that the tower occupied will soon be home to the new Toy Story Land.

Major construction at DHS continues on a new Star Wars-themed Land and new Toy Story Land, both opening in 2017.

This follows the removal of DHS’s other park icon, Mickey’s Socerers Hat, in early 2015:

In January 2016, is was rumored that the Earful Tower might be moved to Disney Springs, but then a new, different style water tower was installed at Disney Springs in February.

Disney statement about the Dancing Lights:

This holiday season will mark the finale for The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The display of lights has enjoyed a successful run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, going all the way back to when it first appeared on Residential Street.

In order to prepare for some incredible experiences coming to the park, including the recently announced Toy Story Land and a Star Wars-themed land, we will not be able to present The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in the future. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the family of Jennings Osborne for letting us share their family tradition year after year.

And thank you to all of you for being part of the spectacle with us. Here’s to making more memories in this, the 20th and final year.

A Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

The Big Light Switch will be turned off for the last time on January 3, 2016!

Where: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

When:  November 06, 2015 – January 03, 2016

The light spectacle this year has been enhanced to include choreographed “dancing” lights that swirl and soar to an exhilarating medley of holiday music every 15 minutes, thanks to electronic wizardry featuring more than 400 dimmers.

Every building façade, all the trees, wreaths, bells and holiday figures dance to classic tunes while “Florida snow” flurries fall from the skies.  It really is something to see!!

Marvel at millions of glittering lights perfectly synchronized to holiday music. Share in an awe-inspiring seasonal treat for the entire family. Brilliant multi-colored bulbs wrap the buildings, changing hues and brightness throughout the show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

As joyful music surrounds you, a sea of twinkling lights form twirling carousels of heavenly angels, toy soldiers, a spinning Earth, and even Santa and his trusty reindeer. It’s something you have to see to believe!

The LED lights were so BRIGHT!

This elaborate holiday decoration display incorporates millions of LED Christmas lights, fake snow and various holiday vignettes done to familiar holiday carols and tunes.  Lovely.

Toy Story Land is Coming to DHS!

Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer 2017!

Toy Story Land will be based upon the beloved Pixar film and will take guests on an immersive journey.  It will make it appear as if guests have been shrunk down to action-figure size thanks to oversized building blocks, buckets and game board pieces that will make up the area as they explore Andy’s backyard.

Slinky Dog roller coaster.

Two new attractions are being added:

  1. Family-friendly roller coaster – Guests will board Slinky Dog’s back for a thrilling toy-filled roller coaster adventure that’s ideal for the entire family.
  2. Alien saucers attraction – The famous little green aliens from the movie will take guests around for a spin in their very own flying saucers – but beware The Claw above!
The Claw!

It’s expected that Toy Story Land will be installed near the preexisting Toy Story Mania, which is currently being expanded to include a third track.

Toy Story 4 is coming in 2017.

Toy Story 4 is coming in 2017.

And, Toy Story 4 is on the way!

This time, it’s all about the love story between Woody and Bo Peep.

“I love Bo Peep,” said John Lasseter, the chief creative officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. “And we never got to know her backstory. She wasn’t in Toy Story 3 at all, so it really set us up nicely for her to come back. It’s a very special story.” For Lasseter, in particular. The Disney exec revealed that Bo Peep’s story is based off of his own wife Nancy’s life.

Bo Peep is voiced by Annie Potts. Tom Hanks, of course, voices Woody, while Tim Allen covers Buzz Lightyear.

Toy Story 4 is due to hit theaters in June 2017, coinciding with the opening of Toy Story Land at DHS.
