Wondering about the crowds, especially in December???  Well, they are miserable the last 2 weeks in December, BUT wonderful the first two weeks in December!

The 2.5 weeks between Thanksgiving and December 15th is a relatively low crowd period at the Magic Kingdom and Disney World in general.  Enjoy!

Lions and Tigers and Strollers, Oh My!

This is not Caroline’s first time in the Disney College Program. Along with her sister, she was previously accepted into the program a few years earlier.  Back in Colorado, Caroline was wishing for a little more pixie dust to brighten up her life.  On a whim, she decides to apply to the exclusive Disney Alumni Summer Program.

Now that she’s back, things get wild.

Wild, as in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where Caroline is assigned to work in Stroller Rental.  While not the most glamorous position in the park, it’s often ground zero for humanity at its best and at its worst.

While Caroline makes many “Magical Moments” for deserving guests whose pixie dust has gone temporarily sideways, she also receives magical moments of her own through the friendships she makes, going to Disney cast member exclusive events, and all the spectacular dining opportunities at Disney World.

Caroline tells all – from the ins and outs of Disney’s “secret” training class called Traditions; to learning how to be a shiny, happy cast member during on-the-job training; to what it’s like to interact with fellow cast members and the guests who are ready to explore the most magical place on earth.

Join Caroline as she takes you on a wild ride through her adventures in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But be careful, it’s a jungle out there!

The two week after Thanksgiving and into early December are some of the best times to visit WDW with fairly light crowds.  (Note:  Thanksgiving Week and the last two weeks of the year are the WORST time to visit WDW with long lines, heavy crowds, crowded restaurants, rude guests, and Park Phase Closures in effect!)

The holiday decorations are up at the Magic Kingdom!

Why You Must Visit WDW During the Holidays!

Very Merry Christmas Party Mickey

A Very Merry Christmas Party Mickey & Minnie

We’ve got a trip planned to WDW on Nov. 8 – Nov. 15, 2014 to see all the holiday decor and events.  We’ve also got tickets for MVMCP on Friday night, November 14th! 🙂

Here are some of the things on our WDW to-do list:

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

This is one of those “hard-ticket” events that are not included in your theme park admission. Held on select nights November 7th through December 19, 2014 at the Magic Kingdom, this phenomenal celebration includes special stage performances, seasonal treats, streaming holiday music, dance parties with Disney characters, a jolly parade and a breathtaking fireworks show! And to top all that off, as night settles into the Magic Kingdom, Cinderella’s Castle will transform into a twinkling Dream Lights ice castle from Frozen before your very eyes.

At the Cinderella Castle In our Christmas holiday ears!

At the Cinderella Castle in our Christmas holiday Mickey ears!

Candlelight Processional

Epcot is downright brimming with beauty in the winter. The Candlelight Processional is a feast for your eyes and a glorious celebration for your ears combining a full orchestra and mass choir all taking the stage to create a Christmas tree-like display of singing carolers. There is always a celebrity guest narrator who brings to life the Christmas story from the Bible.  Held nightly through November 28th-December 30, 2014.

This year, an exciting line-up of celebrities—including a few all-new to the Candlelight Processional—are set to lend their voices, including:

Jodi Benson: November 28 and 29, 2014

Neil Patrick Harris: November 30 to December 2, 2014

Jonathan Groff (NEW!): December 3 and 4, 2014

Whoopi Goldberg: December 5 and 6, 2014

TBD December 7 to December 8, 2014

TBD December 9 to December 11, 2014

Joe Morton: December 12 to December 14, 2014

Chita Rivera: December 15 to December 17, 2014

Ana Gasteyer: (NEW!) December 18 to December 20, 2014

Marlee Matlin: December 21 to December 23, 2014

Isabella Rossellini: December 24 and 25, 2014

Blair Underwood: December 26 and 27, 2014

Steven Curtis Chapman: December 28 to December 30, 2014

WOW!

WOW!

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

Millions of glittering lights are perfectly synchronized to holiday-inspired tunes on the Streets of America at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Grab yourself spiced eggnog at one of the carts or some cinnamon roasted nuts and take your time strolling along and enjoying the season with your friends and family!  Held nightly November 7, 2014 – January 04, 2015.

Gingerbread (2)Holiday Displays at the Parks and Resorts

Prepare yourself for delightful holiday decorations with huge decorated Christmas trees and gingerbread houses and displays at each and every Walt Disney World Resort during November, December, and into the first week of January 2015.

Days of Christmas at Downtown Disney

Days of Christmas at Downtown Disney

Seasonal Merchandise

The merchandise Disney offers in the months leading up to the holidays are wonderfully unique.  From holiday-themed sweaters to gorgeous snow globes to doormats, there is something for everyone at the gift shops!

Seasonal Foods and Drinks

The seasonal offerings of food and beverages alone are worth coming to Disney World in November and December!  Disney serves up some seriously yummy, traditional, seasonal grub at every theme park and resort. Epcot’s World Showcase features food and drink items such as pecan maple bark in Canada, hot applejack cider in the United Kingdom, and savory turkey or sweet potato casserole WAFFLES at the Promenade. You can sip delicious and various-flavored hot chocolates throughout the Disney property, as well as eggnogs in many flavors! You can also grab deliciously authentic gingerbread cookies at any resort or theme park as well.

Holidays around the World Showcase in Epcot

There’s no better way to experience and learn about the unique holiday traditions than to stroll along Epcot’s World Showcase in the months of November and December! Each country will have a storyteller that will captivate you with tales of lore from their heritage and traditional customs held during the Christmas season. Epcot’s Illuminations: Reflections on Earth gets an additional 4-minute extended holiday-themed finale, “With Peace on Earth.”

Weather

Unless you live for extreme heat and humidity, Florida weather in the late fall is just about perfect!  Daytime highs in the mid-70s, nighttime lows in the 50s, with much less of a chance of rain than in the summertime.  Pleasant, sunny days with low humidity abound in November and December!

Smaller Crowds

The first three weeks of November and the first three weeks of December are actually low, “off season” times with low crowd forecasts for the theme parks!  Imagine parking in-close, no ride wait times, the ability to get reservations at your favorite Disney restaurant or resort…all of this is possible in those 6 weeks!  Sounds wonderful to us!! 🙂

Christmas Happenings at WDW

Nobody decorates for the Christmas holiday season like Disney! 🙂

We’re making a list of all the things that we want to do and see this November:

Seeing the Christmas Decorations

The holiday decorating starts the first week in November and is mostly complete in time for the first night of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party – November 7th this year!

On Main Street USA, all decorated for Christmas.

On Main Street USA, all decorated for Christmas.

The Disney resorts will be all decorated for the holidays too, along with the theme parks. Each theme park will have an enormous decorated Christmas tree, and so will all the Deluxe resort lobbies.

Cinderella Castle Dream Lights

In front of Cinderella Castle with Dream Lights turned on.

In front of Cinderella Castle with Dream Lights turned on.

Starting November 7th, the Dream Lights will be turned on each evening.

Disney decorates Cinderella Castle for the holiday season with a “Dream Lights” effect that makes the Castle seem to be covered in ice. Over 200,000 lights are draped over the turrets and roofs of the Castle to create this beautiful effect. A short show called “Cinderella’s Holiday Wish” and a castle lighting ceremony is held each evening, usually around 6:15 pm, and the lights remain on, slowly changing colors, for the rest of the evening.

New this year:  Elsa turns the Cinderella Castle icy!

Plus, most of the major attractions will be open!  No lines!!

Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios

Starting November 7th, the spectacle this year has been enhanced to include choreographed “dancing” lights that swirl and soar to an exhilarating medley of holiday music every 15 minutes, thanks to electronic wizardry featuring more than 400 dimmers. Every building façade, all the trees, wreaths, bells and holiday figures dance to classic tunes while “Florida snow” flurries fall from the skies. This elaborate holiday decoration display incorporates millions of Christmas lights, fake snow and various holiday vignettes.  Lovely.

The Jingle Cruise

The Jingle Cruise!

The Jingle Cruise!

Also starting November 7th, the Jungle Cruise at the Magic Kingdom will become the “Jingle Cruise” for the winter holiday season.

The Jungle Cruise boats will be renamed with holiday-themed names, the queue and the boathouse will be transformed with holiday decorations, and the Skipper’s jokes will take on a holiday theme as well.

Gingerbread Houses and other Edible Holiday Displays

Grand Floridian Gingerbread House.

Grand Floridian Gingerbread House.

Among the especially amazing holiday decorations are the edible holiday displays whipped up by pastry chefs throughout WDW.

The biggest edible production is a Gingerbread House at Grand Floridian that is so large that it also doubles as a real bake shop. Featuring real gingerbread made using a classic Austrian recipe, the bake shop offers freshly baked items such as cookies, ornaments and miniature gingerbread houses. Other homemade items for sale include Stollen Bread, chocolate peppermint bark, lollipops and special Grand Floridian logo boxes filled with truffles. Demonstrations on how to decorate a gingerbread house take place in front of the bake shop six days a week.

The Gingerbread Bake Shop in Epcot enchants guests of all ages. Guests can peer inside the life-sized gingerbread house filled with goodies galore. The giant structure, made entirely of gingerbread, cookies and icing, also features a bake shop that opens in late November as part of Epcot’s Holidays Around the World celebration.

The resorts at WDW also offer fantastic edible displays. The Beach Club Resort usually has a fully detailed, life-sized gingerbread carousel in the lobby. The lobby of Yacht Club Resort has yummy displays such as a miniature New England-style train racing through a sugary rock mountain surrounded by a candy-coated model village. The lobby of BoardWalk Resort always has an amazing gingerbread display, and the Contemporary Resort had a 17-foot gingerbread Christmas tree in 2013!  (Displays start November 13, 2014!)

Festival of the Seasons & Santa Claus at Downtown Disney

Santa at DTD

Santa outside his chalet at DTD

Starting on November 14th, Santa appears in his chalet at Downtown Disney Marketplace. Downtown Disney will be all decorated in Christmas cheer and special Christmas music will be playing for the “Festival of the Seasons.” The event includes special entertainment, including holiday carolers; Latin, jazz and pop performances of holiday songs; costumed stilt walkers and street performers; and a lively holiday dance party with deejay every weekend.
