Sept 28th Update
All four theme parks in the Disney World Resort are closed Wednesday and Thursday, Sept 28 – 29, 2022. Disney allows guests to cancel tickets or reservations with no penalty if there is a hurricane warning in effect and if you’re within 7 days of travel.
Guests were evacuated from several Disney World hotels on Monday afternoon as Hurricane Ian bears down on Florida.
Disney World has closed Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs and the Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort from Wednesday through Friday.
“We are contacting guests with current and upcoming reservations,” the resort said in a statement.
The closed areas are campground-style lodgings or areas in close proximity to water; the bungalows at the Polynesian, for instance, are built on little individual piers that jut out onto the Seven Seas Lagoon.
Guests with reservations at other hotels will be allowed to check-in until 3pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Disney’s water park Typhoon Lagoon and Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf, its two mini golf parks, will also be closed Wednesday and Thursday. It is possible closures could last longer, depending on weather conditions.
The last time Disney World closed for a hurricane was in 2017 when Hurricane Irma hit Florida.
We’ve written two books about our time working – and playing – as Disney Cast Members at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Both are available on Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle: Two Girls and a Mouse Tale and Adventures in the Animal Kingdom.
